The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) is an aviation regulator, an agency of the United States Department of Transportation created to regulate and oversee all aspects of civil aviation in the United States. It was established under the Federal Aviation Act of 1958 as the Federal Aviation Agency. It took its current name in 1966, when it became part of the U.S. Department of Transportation.
