Runway lighting

FX862C / FX862CW

Product description

FX862C and FX862CW, the L-862C(L) raised runway edge lighting, is part of a full range of LED luminaires for runway and taxiway lighting systems. This application is a high-intensity, bidirectional, unidirectional, transparent (white), yellow, red light source, suitable for CAT II/III operations. Clear (white) omnidirectional optical matrix can also be integrated into the fixtures. The use of the latest LED technology ensures optimization of power consumption, resulting in lower operating temperatures, which improves the life of the LED module, which is estimated at more than 60,000 hours. The luminaire, when installed, is adjustable in height from 250 to 350 mm, which includes the breakable connector on which it is mounted.

Designed to withstand harsh environments, the luminaires will operate in a temperature range of -55°C to +55°C (-67°F to +131°F) and are IP67 (IEC 69598-1) rated. The standard FAA L823 Type 1 connector is used to connect the device to an isolation transformer, providing a watertight connection. For some applications, the option of an additional power cord can be ordered. The luminaire operates from 2.8 to 6.6 amps and can be powered by an IGBT-type CCR, a ferroresonance or a thyristor unit feeding an airport lighting (AGL) series circuit. The luminaire is fully dimmable and follows the response curve of halogen bulbs, as detailed in Technical Description 67 presented in Advisory Circular (AC) FAA 150/5345-53.

Two options are available for this product to accommodate different runway widths. The FX862C is suitable for 45-meter-wide runways with 3.5-degree convergence angles, while the FX862CW is designed for 60-meter-wide runways with 4.5-degree convergence angles. The luminaire is compatible with existing circuits, so there is no need to replace constant current regulators (CCRs), isolation transformers or field cables. However, we recommend reconnecting the CCR to match the circuit load to ensure that you get the benefit of the hardware installation. A “fail open” monitoring function is available, which works if the LED array stops working in an interrupted or shorted state. The use of an LED light source eliminates filter replacement and color shifts when viewed from different angles or at different CCR brightness settings.

Usage

The luminaire is used as a runway approach path light. CAT II ground lighting systems
(agl) for all airports.
